The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival presents ShakeScenes, 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17, in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center’s Leighton Concert Hall. Free and open to the public.
ShakeScenes comprises ten 10-minute scenes from the works of William Shakespeare, performed by local school, community and theatre enthusiasts.
Performances this year will be held in the Leighton Concert Hall in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. Performances are free but ticketed. Please call the DeBartolo ticket office, 631-2800 to reserve seats.
The Young Company production of As You Like It debuts at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Stevensville (Mich.) Public Library, followed by eight outdoor performances around Michiana. All performances are free, and no tickets are required.
Comprising students from eight colleges and universities (including Notre Dame, Northwestern University, Ball State University, Butler University, Indiana University South Bend, Indiana University Bloomington, Oklahoma City University and the Theatre School at DePaul University), the Young Company will visit eight venues across Michiana for outdoor performances of Shakespeare’s wonderful comedy, with the concluding performance taking place at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, on the Main Quad in front of the Golden Dome.
This year, the production will have an historical flair, setting the play in the post- Civil War era, enhanced by costumes designed by recent Notre Dame graduate Lucy Lavely and original music by Northwestern University student Alex Goldklang. South Bend natives Lydia Dreyer and Brent Abram-Copenhaver are among the cast of this production sure to amuse and entertain audiences throughout the region.
