The Fischoff National Chamber Music Association welcomes back competitors and award winners Axiom Brass as they arrive in South Bend this week for a Fischoff Residency. The public is invited to two truly exceptional public performances:
Join us at 7 or 8:30 p.m. Thursday, November 3, for “The Sky is the Limit,” a performance by Axiom Brass in the Digital Visualization Theater (DVT) at the Jordan Hall of Science, University of Notre Dame.
From the comfort of a reclining seat, you will fly through the universe while watching images projected on the DVT’s 50-foot dome and listening to “Celestial Suite” for brass quintet. This world premiere was commissioned by Axiom Brass and the Fischoff especially for the DVT, and reflects on the relationship between astronomy and sacred music.
Light refreshments and conversation with the artists will follow the performance. There will be two showings, at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. This event is FREE but seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your spot, phone 574-631-2903 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
At 7 p.m. Friday, November 4, Axiom Brass performs “An Evening of Sacred Music” in the Leighton Concert Hall, DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. Sacred Music has played an integral role in the development of music. Featuring the works of J.S. Bach, Handel, and Gabrieli among others, this concert is a journey through time with a program that focuses purely on Sacred Music written for, or inspired by, the church.
Tickets for the concert are $24 for faculty and staff. To purchase, click here or call 631-2800
Axiom Brass was recently selected as the inaugural winner of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association’s Educator Award, which recognizes the educational outreach work of Fischoff Competition alumni who have demonstrated outstanding and imaginative programming for children and youth in the United States while maintaining professional careers in chamber music. They will be performing this sacred music concert as part of a weeklong Arts-in-Education Residency within the community.
