New names for familiar spaces

A familiar campus building—and one that’s been recently acquired—will have new names, Executive Vice President John Affleck-Graves’ office has announced.

The building referred to as Old Security, on the corner of Holy Cross Drive and Dorr Road (between the Burke Memorial Golf Course and St. Mary’s Lake) has been named West Lake Hall. The building houses the Department of Art, Art History and Design’s graphic and industrial design departments; Office of Information Technology Communication Services; the TRiO Program, which includes Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search.

On the north side of the building, an old garage was demolished and replaced by a new building that will be called the *West Lake Hall Design Studio." The space will house the art department’s industrial design model shop and the School of Architecture’s furniture design studio.

The old St. Joe High School building on the corner of Angela Boulevard and Michigan Street, recently acquired by the University, is now named Hillcrest Hall.
